Pamplona is a welcoming city with a wide cultural and culinary offer located along the Camino de Santiago (St. James’ Way). For centuries it has opened up to pilgrims on the Magdalena bridge, an ideal starting point for a stroll to discover the city walls. After crossing the portal de Francia, you come to the city’s old quarter and the Santa María de la Real Cathedral. A stroll around the city’s old quarter allows you to contemplate other buildings of interest such as the churches/fortresses of San Nicolás and San Saturnino, the old city walls or the Palace of los Reyes de Navarra, the current General Archives of Navarra. One of the city’s most beautiful chapels is the Chapel of San Fermin, in the San Lorenzo church.
Another place with a special charm is the Plaza del Castillo, the city’s nucleus, where you can recharge your batteries in the many terraces and bars such as the authentic Café Iruña.

You can’t finish this tour without walking down the famous Calle de la Estafeta, which includes various compulsory stops, such as the Cuesta de Santo Domingo with the image of San Fermin, the Town Hall with Baroque façade, Mercaderes or the entrance to the Bull Ring, over which the statue of Hemingway presides. After covering the old quarter of the capital of Navarra, it’s time to visit modern day Pamplona beginning with the parks of Media Luna and la Taconera, the latter is the oldest and most beautiful in the city, where you can find a small zoo behind the walls of which deer, ducks, rabbits and peacocks share their living space. Another emblematic park is the Vuelta del Castillo, attached to the old Citadel, which can be visited. An essential part of this “green walk” is the Yamaguchi park where you can find the city’s Planetarium, which has the largest dome in the world measuring 20 metres in diameter.

At the half way point you must make a stop to try Navarra’s culinary delights.

In Pamplona you can find all typical products from the area, however it is well worth trying the ox or beef chuletón (large T-bone steak), chilindrón style lamb, lean meat with tomato, pigs trotters, menudicos (lamb’s feet and tripe with blood), roasted gorrín (suckling pig) and zikiro jate (baby goat roasted over beechwood). Vegetables are prized produce in this region’s cuisine.

Tender and fresh and prepared in many different ways, the most outstanding being artichokes (the best being from Tudela and accompanied by clams), broad beans, cardoons and borage. Baby lettuce hearts, tender asparagus and piquillo peppers are also essential ingredients on any typical menu found in Pamplona.

But if Pamplona is famous for anything, it’s the tapas on offer. You cannot miss out on the great selection of tapas, wines and liqueurs to be found in the bars and restaurants of the old quarter such as the legendary Pacharán Navarro (sloe gin).

How to arrive?

The Zenit Pamplona Hotel is located in the Parque Comercial Galaria, right in the business centre of Pamplona, five minutes from the city centre and only about three minutes from the Noain International Airport. It is very easy to get to from the A-15 motorway.

From Zaragoza:
Follow the A-15 and take exit 83B towards Pamplona. Carry straight on and take the first exit NA-33 towards Polígono industrial de Mutilva Baja. There will be a roundabout next to the La Morea shopping centre. Carry straight on and keep the shopping centre on your right. On crossing the roundabout, the Zenit Pamplona Hotel will be on your left.

From San Sebastian Donostia/Vitoria-Gasteiz
Follow the A15 and take exit 83. At the first roundabout, turn left, and at the second roundabout, take the first right, following directions to Pamplona. Follow the La Morea-Mutilva exit.
